Below is the original Amplitude Map of an area in SouthWest Texas.  Knowing this map may have influenced drilling decisions, you can see why the well locations might have been chosen where they were.   On both maps, locations of existing wells have be superimposed: The 8 white "open plus signs" are existing dry holes, and the 4 black dots are successful oil wells.

And below is a sample of Seismic Insight's technology called a "Contrast Volume."  It shows the same subsurface terrain in terms of similarity and dissimilarity to a few proven historical productive and non-productive areas.

Comparing locations with the Seismic Contrast Volume, it is not difficult to determine why the dry holes turned out dry!
