"The ERI tool has the potential to significantly reduce risk and greatly enhance return on investment in plays and prospects where 3-D seismic data exist or where their acquisition is being considered."

Imagine what can happen when a geophysical mind meets fluid software that can "teach itself" the seismic properties of a "good well," then look for another set of those seismic features in the same 3D. And what if such a tool could use this information to highlight the most prospective new areas within or nearby the existing field? Now suppose the predictions could be "validated" and assesed for risk previous to drilling by comparing with software accuracy for other wells with known performance... Technology at Seismic Insight could totally change the the concept of risk management in petroleum exploration and resource management. Our focus is exclusively on 3D seismic data. We specialize in those 3D surveys on which there already exist some producing wells or dry holes. Our technology examines the seismic profiles of key areas of interest within a 3D survey (such as areas surrounding an oil well, a dry hole, or an area of known high porosity). It then contrasts those profiles to develop an Interpretation Key leading to similar locations in other areas. For example, seismic properties of a high producing oil well could be contrasted with a dry hole to learn what seismic features are needed to direct drilling towards the best economics. Our software technology, known as Event Resolution Imaging (ERI), can combine and incorporate information from many sources--including most types of pre-stack and post-stack data. Hidden information in seismic waves can be combined with known information from production reports and/or well logs. Finally, the data can be dissected, analyzed, and synthesized to make important relationships visually obvious. While the quality of every result is always conmensurate with the quality of the data provided as input, you now have a tool that maximizes your ability to make intelligent use of all the facts and information available to you. This, of course, can dramatically increase your sense of certainty as you move forward in an environment and industry where sound judgment is critical. |
